YouTube shutdown prank video for April Fools’ Day 2013 receives mixed reactions

The YouTube shutdown prank video, which was uploaded this Sunday, March 31, 2013, is now receiving mixed reactions from fans. Nevertheless, some of them believed it and got confused, apparently forgetting that today, April 1 is April Fools’ Day. However, there are those who realized that it was just an April Fools‘ joke.

As announced earlier by YouTube, Google‘s video platform company will shutdown starting Monday, April 1, 2013, and will be back online in 2023. While they are offline for a decade, a winner for the best video will be awarded an MP3 player and a $500 creative stipend for their next project.

“We started YouTube in 2005 as a contest with the simple goal: to find the best video in the world.” YouTube CEO Salar Kamangar in the YouTube shutdown prank video, adding that an estimated 70 hours of video are being uploaded to the site every minute.

“We are so close to the end tonight at midnight. will no longer be accepting entries. After eight amazing years, it’s finally time to review everything that has been uploaded to our site and begin the process of selecting a winner.” Tom Liston, YouTube communications director, said.

Apparently, some YouTube celebrities also spoke on the said video to make it more believable. It even showed some of the 30,000 technicians and judges while watching some of the nominees for the best YouTube video winner and their preparation for their re-launch in 2023.
