Microsoft unveiled its XBox SmartGlass application ahead of the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on Monday, June 4, 2012, according to reports by several international news sites. SmartGlass is Microsoft‘s new multiscreen entertainment platform that lets users beam content from their mobile devices to the Xbox 360.

Reports say that the XBox SmartGlass uses touch screen devices to interact with and control media through the game console and displays content on a TV, Windows 8 PC or portable devices.

The XBox‘s new functionality is reportedly in contrast with Nintendo‘s new gamepad controller which will feature a touch screen display right in the center of the device.

XBox is reportedly using the app towards the possibility of web browsing on television which will be more enjoyable using touch screens.

According to Microsoft, the new SmartGlass will work on Windows, Windows Phone, and the Xbox 360. In addition, SmartGlass will also support Android and iOS.
