A recent study released by SplashData shows that “password” is still the worst password to choose when securing an online identity, international news sites reported on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.

The top 3 worst passwords have not changed since 2011, they are “password”, 123456 and 12345678. This year’s list include new worst passwords such as welcome, jesus, mustang, ninja and password1.

“We’re hoping that with more publicity about how risky it is to use weak passwords, more people will start taking simple steps to protect themselves by using stronger passwords and using different passwords for different websites,” Morgan Slain, SplashData CEO was quoted as saying.
