Worst Flood in Missouri, Emergency Evacuation Ordered by City Manager Doug Bagby

National Weather Service hydrologist, Mike Callahan, said that the flood that hit Missouri is the:

“…worst flooding since 1977.”

The Cape Girardeau Regional Airport was also closed as flood waters continue to rise and is expected to rise in the ensuing days. This was disclosed by US news sites, April 25, 2011.

Jay Nixon, the Governor of Missouri, had ordered the National Guard to help in the relief operations. The Black River’s levee is “weakening” as more rainfall is expected.

City Manager Doug Bagby River communities in the Missouri-Arkansas border, including Poplar Bluff were evacuated as schools are closed. The river water is predicted to rise up to 12.5 feet above flood stage.
