Woody Woodpecker: Illumination to Modernize Cartoon Character for an Upcoming Movie

Woody Woodpecker, the cartoon character who started to become popular in the 1940s, will soon have a full-length movie, as Illumination Entertainment has plans to modernize the Woodpecker for this upcoming project. This was disclosed by U.S. entertainment sites, November 17, 2011.

According to these reports, there are ongoing talks with writers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. They would be tasked to create the story of the modern Woody Woodpecker.

The Woody Woodpecker cartoon character was originally created by cartoonist Walter Lantz and Ben Hardaway.

Walter Lantz was also responsible in creating other cartoon characters like Andy Panda, Snuffy Skunk, Jock and Jill and many more characters. Lantz is a star recipient of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

Reportedly, the “modernized” Woody Woodpecker is expected to create a franchise.
