Petra Kvitova won the Wimbledon 2011 Finals Women’s title on Saturday, July 02, 2011 and the first time in her career, after beating Maria Sharapova of Russia, 6-3, 6-4.

As noted at British news sites that day, eight-seeded Kvitova beat Sharapova by winning the first two sets, as she also won her first grand slam in Wimbledon.

The Sharapova vs Kvitova tennis match was held at the Centre Court, the main court of Wimbledon women’s championship, while HRH Duke of Kent went to the court to present the trophies for both players.

Kvitova, 21, won against Victoria Azarenka last Thursday, 6-1, 3-6 and 6-2, and became the first Czech woman to reach the Wimbledon Finals since 1998.

On the other hand, Sharapova, 24, who ranks No. 6, played to win her second Wimbledon title, after beating Serena Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon Finals at the age of 17.

The Wimbledon 2011 Finals was their second tennis match, with Sharapova beating Kvitova in the first two sets during the 2010 Memphis semi-finals, 6-4, 6-3.
