As noted at NYDailyNews.com on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, Willow the cat ran away while the her owners’ house was under renovation five years ago.

According to the report, Willow, a Calico cat, was wandering on E 20th Street in Manhattan, New York City on Tuesday when she was found by a man who brought her to the Animal Care and Control.

Apparently, the Squires family, Willow‘s owner, was amazed upon learning the good news and could hardly believe that the cat has traveled that far.

“When we first heard the voicemail, we couldn’t believe it. My husband and I didn’t want to tell the kids until we knew it was definitely her.” Jamie Squires said on the report.

“They emailed the photo and it was her. The kids are so excited.” She added, noting that the microchip planted under Willow‘s skin clearly identified that she was really their long lost pet.

“No one knows how the cat made her way from Colorado to New York City.” Manhattan’s Animal Care and Control executive director Julie Bank told NY Daily News.

Nevertheless, Ms. Bank added that they were glad that Willow is safe and will go back to her real owners, noting that the Colorado cat was healthy when she was found.
