Will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas to perform in upcoming Beijing concert

Washington, D.C.Grammy-award-winning musician and rapper-producer, Will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas‘ will participate and direct a concert to be held in Beijing later this year. The concert will promote cultural and educational ties between the United States and China, according to Jill Dougherty of CNN on Saturday, July 30, 2011.

Will.i.am reportedly had a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the State Department on Friday about the upcoming concert.

The Grammy-award-winning musician was quoted saying, “In order to become responsible global citizens, young people need to experience the world around them. Kids from under-served communities rarely have the opportunity to study and travel abroad, and we want to change that. We must make sure that American students have the cultural awareness and skills necessary to succeed in a global economy.”

Apparently, the upcoming Beijing concert which is being organized by Americans Promoting Study Abroad will include performances by Will.i.am and other U.S. and Chinese pop stars.

The organizer was said to be a U.S. non-profit organization that offers public high school students of full scholarships for language and culture studies in China.

The funds that will be raised in association with the concert will be used to support and operate study abroad programs in China for under-served American students, according to the State Department as reported by CNN.
