Westminster Dog Show 2011 to showcase nearly 2,600 dogs

The Westminster Dog Show 2011 is set to showcase nearly 2,600 dogs, which will be held at the Madison Square Garden in New York from February 14 to 15, 2011, according to Westminster Kennel Club recently.

The annual dog show, apparently the biggest dog show in the US, is expected to be joined by 2,597 dogs from 49 states, with 179 eligible breeds including six newcomers, in which Maryland has 79 entries.

Among the newcomers for the 135th Annual Westminster Kennel Club dog show are Bluetick Coonhound, Boykin Spaniel, Cane Corso, Icelandic Sheepdog, Leonberger, and Redbone Coonhound.

As posted at WestminsterKennelClub.org, each breed will have its own competition, which will take place each day between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6 p.m.,

Then, the winner from each breed will proceed to one of the seven canine categories competition which are, Toy, Herding, Sporting, Non-sporting, Hounds, Working and Terrier.

The Toy, Hound, Herding, and Non-sporting and Herding group competitions will be shown on Monday, February 14, from 8 to 9 p.m. (ET) on USA Network, which will be continued on CNBC from 9 to 11 p.m, the same night.

Meanwhile, the Working, Terrier, Sporting, as well as the ‘Best In Show’ which will be shown live on the USA Network from 8 to 11 p.m. (ET)

Incidentally, a Scottish terrier named Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, or Sadie, won the ‘Best in Show’ in Westminster Dog Show 2010.

She was the world’s first triple-crown winner dog, since she also won the National Dog Show in November and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in December.
