“Weird Al” Yankovic‘s parody of Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way” titled “Perform This Way” has been approved by Lady Gaga, as reported by Yankovic on his official blog on April 20, 2011.

It was a roller coaster ride for Yankovic before he got Gaga‘s approval. According to his blog post titled “The Gaga Saga,” Lady Gaga‘s manager told him that Lady Gaga decided not to give him permission to release the song after she had listened to it.

He then decided to upload the song on Youtube. Afterwhich, a turn of events happened. Here is Yankovic‘s blog post about what happened then:

After putting my Lady Gaga parody on YouTube this morning – and announcing that it wouldn’t be on my next album because Gaga didn’t approve it – there was a huge outpouring of disappointment from the Internet.

Apparently the fact that she didn’t approve it was news to Lady Gaga herself!

Gaga’s manager has now admitted that he never forwarded my parody to Gaga – she had no idea at all. Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that’s what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own.

According to Yankovic, Gaga “loves” the song. Lady Gaga approved the song which means that Yankovic will include it on his new album.

Although parodies have always fallen under “fair use,” Yankovic said that is has always been his personal policy to get the consent of the original artists before including his parodies in any album.

With Lady Gaga‘s approval of the parody, “Perform This Way” will surely be a part of “Weird Al” Yankovic‘s new album coming out on June.
