A wedding dress cake, as shown in the photo below, was unveiled at the National Wedding Show in Birmingham, UK, which runs from March 1-3, 2013 (Friday-Sunday). The life-size wedding dress, which was made of cake, was created by Donna Millington-Day, owner of Fairytale Cake Company.

As noted at Daily Mail on Friday, March 1, Donna Millington-Day was inspired by her daughter Hanna, 6, who was designing wedding cakes for her cake shop in Staffordshire. In fact, Hanna also helped her in creating the wedding gown completely made of cake, which can feed more than 2,000 people.

Hannah was going through my old wedding photos when she suggested we recreate my dress. I thought it was a great idea. Although it’s not an exact replica, I have taken the details like the corset and styling on the side.” Millington-Day, 36, was quoted in the report.

“The satin finish was achieved using a pearl lustre and each swirl was hand-piped…We’re not going to sell the cake, but to buy it would cost around £6,000 (around $9,000). After the show we’re going to display it in our shop window.” Millington-Day added, who used a custom-made trolley to bring it to the show.

According to the report, the delicious wedding dress cake was made up of 22 kilos of sugar paste icing, 2 lbs of royal icing, and hundreds of sugar pearls. It reaches 17 tiers high, with a base diameter of 30 inches, hips diameter of 12 inches, and standing at 6 feet tall.

In order to achieve this, Mrs Millington-Day consumed 224 free-range eggs, 28 lbs of flour, 28 lbs of caster sugar, and 28 lbs of butter. It was also filled with 17 lbs of Madagascan vanilla butter cream and around 7 lbs of raspberry jam; and was baked for a week. Well, it’s worth the wait…how sweet!
