Weather Forecast on New Year’s Eve and January 1, 2011 by PAGASA

Merry makers on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2010 will surely be affected by the weather conditions that will prevail all over the country on January 2, 2011, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

A special weather forecast has been issued by PAGASA for the New Year Holidays that covers the period of December 29, 2010 up to January 2, 2011. Cold winds brought about by the Southwest monsoon and scattered rainshowers may frustrate fireworks display and those who celebrate New Year’s Eve using firecrackers.

Here is the complete PAGASA Special Weather Outlook for the New Year:

SPECIAL WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR THE NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS
(December 29, 2010 – January 02, 2011)

Northeast Monsoon associated with strong northeasterly winds together with passing light rains and cooler temperature will be experience over Northern and Central Luzon.

Wind Convergence will be the dominant weather system to affect Southern Luzon, Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao.  This weather system will bring scattered to widespread rains over Bicol region including Quezon Province and eastern Visayas (Samar and Leyte Provinces) today until 31st of December 2010.  On January 01 (New Year), Bicol area will have gradual improve weather condition and the rain activitity slides down affecting eastern Visayas together Northeastern Mindanao Provinces.

Fishermen over the coastal areas of Luzon are advised to refrain from venturing out into the sea due to big wave generated by strong northeasterly winds.  Likewise, fisher folks over eastern Visayas are warned for moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough seas due to the expected southward effect of the monsoon surge.

No tropical cyclone development is expected throughout the outlook period.
