According to the description on its eBay auction page, the bid for the annual auction for a private lunch with Warren Buffett started last Sunday, June 3 with an opening bid of $25,000 and ended on June 8, 2012 at 7:30 pm PDT, and was sold for $3,456,789.

“I just got through talking to Mr. Buffett and he was very thrilled, very happy that things turned out.” Glide Foundation founder Rev. Cecil Williams was quoted telling to NY Post on Saturday, with the bidding nearly tripled in the final seconds from $1.23 million.

“He seemed very moved by it. He said: ‘Susie would be happy about this.'” Williams added, referring to Susan Buffett, the billionaire’s first wife, who passed away on July 29, 2004 at the age of 72, and was also the president of Buffett Foundation in Omaha, Nebraska.

Susan was a part of Glide Church for a number of years before we even knew she was there.” Williams explained further, with the annual lunch auction now on its 13 years after Susan Buffett introduced Williams to her husband.

As noted in the auction, the winning bidder can invite up to seven friends to have a private dining with Warren Buffett, also known as Oracle of Omaha at Midtown Manhattan‘s Smith & Wollensky steak house, with last year’s winner reportedly bought it for around $2.63 million.
