According to international news websites, an entire complement of 20 brooches, bracelets and other gems once owned by Wallis Simpson were sold in an auction late Tuesday in London. The set of jewels includes a Cartier gold and diamond necessaire du soir engraved with ‘Wallis from Edward 1947′, a Cartier gold and gem-set cigarette case, a Cartier diamond bracelet, Cartier onyx and diamond panther bracelet, a Cartier emerald, ruby and diamond broach and a Cartier flamingo diamond clip.
The Cartier onyx and diamond panther bracelet was said to have the highest price that any bracelet had ever been sold in an auction. It also became the most expensive Cartier item to be sold at any auction.
Reports said that the onyx and diamond Cantier in a shape of a panther bracelet reached £4,521,250 at Sotheby‘s in central London. A ruby, sapphire, emerald, citrine and diamond Cartier flamingo was also one of the top items of the night, reaching £1.7 million.
