Apple‘s CarPlay was announced last Monday, March 3, 2014 and Volvo immediately showed interest in applying it to the XC90, that is expected to be available by the end of the year.

CarPlay is an iPhone-based app that is integrated into a car’s dashboard. A CarPlay enabled vehicle will be able to use Siri, or the car’s touch screen to search maps, play music, and answer phone calls. According to Apple, its CarPlay app will provide “minimized distraction” to drivers.

Several car manufacturers are expected to roll out CarPlay-enabled models this year. Among the early adopters of CarPlay include Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo.
