Democrat Timothy Kaine won Virginia‘s Senate seat on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, beating Republican George Allen, international news sites reported that day.
According to reports, Allen conceded the seat to Kaine just before 11 pm. Kaine received 52.4% of the votes while Allen got 47.6% on a 99% reporting posted on Huffington Post.
“I’ve called Tim and congratulated him. We still remain friends personally, and that’s an important thing. I’ve congratulated him and pledged my support as he takes on the task of [representing the people of Virginia],” Allen was quoted as saying by the Washington Times.
Kaine will fill the seat being held by Democratic Sen. Jim Webb, who is retiring at the end of this year, reports said.
