Vidal Sassoon dies, famous hairdresser passes away at 84

World famous hairdresser and fashion icon Vidal Sassoon passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the age of 84, in his home at Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles.

According to The New York Times that day, a spokesman for the Los Angeles police, who was called to go to the home, confirmed to them that Vidal Sassoon, who was known to be fighting with leukemia as of last year, has died in natural causes.

As noted by Los Angeles Times also that day, Vidal Sassoon was with his family that time with no further details immediately available, but noting that a source from the authorities told them that the British hairstylist died of unspecified illness.

Back in 2010, a film titled “Vidal Sassoon: The Movie” was released, a documentary about his life, his humble beginnings until his success in building an empire of beauty saloon worldwide with tons of beauty products under his name.

In an interview by Daily Telegraph in May 2011, Vidal Sassoon shared his life from his childhood, and how poverty forced his mother to put him and his younger brother in a Jewish orphanage when his father left him, as well as his experience as a member of 43 Group at the age 17 and fought the anti-Semitism.

Vidal Sassoon reportedly opened his first salon in London in 1954 and launched his own line of products in 1973 with the now-famous slogan, “If you don’t look good, we don’t look good”, and even appeared in his own commercials back in the 80s.
