USA versus Lithuania

The NBA led USA National team defeated Lithuania, 89-74, to advance in the Finals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Istanbul, TurkeyKevin Durant had 24 points in the first half of the game to lead the US offense, while the rest of the team handled the defensive end. It was the first defeat of Lithuania in the event.

Team USA had a 42-27 advantage at the end of the first half, as Durant again dominated the game as he has been doing in their previous games. A missed dunk by Derick Gordon turned into a three  point shot by Lithuania in the third quarter, briefly woke up the crowd as the Lithuanians came close to just 10 points, 50-40. The game picked up a little more late in the third quarter as Lithuania tried to rally with booming triples and some exciting plays. However, Lithuania never got closer than nine points deficit as the Americans tighten up their defense.

It was a good defensive game on both ends of the court as shown by the game’s low score. The Americans again used its unrelentless defensive pressure throughout the game to frustrate the Lithuanian’s offense.

Durant finished the game with 38 points and 9 rebounds. Lamar Odom added 13 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 5 shots for Team USA. Robertas Javtokas led Lithuania with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Martynas Pocius added 13 points

Team USA now awaits the winner of the game between Turkey versus Serbia who are still playing as of posting. The Finals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship will be on September 12, 2010 18:30 GMT.
