Team USA basketball routed Australia, 119-86, in the men’s quarterfinals game of the 2012 London Olympics on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, held at the North Greenwich Arena. The Americans kept their clean record and will now play in the semifinal round.
Kobe Bryant led the USA national basketball team in his breakout game at London 2012. He scored 20 points on six straight 3-pointers, four in a 75 seconds stretch of the fourth-quarter.
LeBron James meanwhile, had an Olympic record-breaking game against Argentina. James set the 1st triple-double in a US Olympic game. He also surpassed Scottie Pippen‘s all-time assists record by dishing off a five-game total of 76 assists. The Miami Heat superstar is now ranked third in the all time scoring list of USA basketball players.
Patrick Mills top scored for Australia with 26 points and Joe Ingles added 19 points.
Unlike its last two preliminary games, the Americans were never threatened by the Australians in this game.
Team USA is schedule to play against Argentina in the knockout semifinal game on Friday, August 10. Argentina won over Brazil, 82-77, to earn the right to go up against the USA team.
