US Women’s Basketball Wins Gold in Final Game vs France at London 2012 Olympic

The US women’s basketball team won their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal on Saturday night, August 11, 2012, according to several London 2012 coverages. Team USA defeated France, 86-50, in the London 2012 final game held at the North Greenwich Arena.

The US women’s team used their trapping defense and full court pressure to rattle the offense of the French team. France was held scoreless for over five minutes in the third quarter as the Americans pulled away with a 19-0 run.

Candace Parker led the US women’s team with 21 points followed by Sue Bird with 11 and Diana Taurasi added 9 points.

Showing teamwork throughout the game, the Americans had 22 assists against France‘s 12. Team USA also dominated the boards by pulling down 46 rebounds, with France grabbing only 38.

Defense was the key to the US victory as they forced France to 21 turnovers. The US women’s team only had 11 errors in the game.

The Americans posted their biggest lead of the game at 38 with 3:09 left in the third quarter.
