According to Komo News late this week, Babylonia Aivaz, a Seattle activist, said she is planning to get married to the 107-year-old warehouse located at 10th and Union in the Capitol Hill neighborhood this Sunday.

As told by Aivaz to the paper, she is planning to enter in what she calls as “a gay marriage” with the old building; as she rushed to the building area wearing a wedding dress upon learning that it is now being demolished.

“If corporations can have the rights as people, so can buildings,” Aivaz was quoted telling to Komo News, referring to a Supreme Court decision on political advertising, with the building’s awning now torn down by the demolition team.

“I’m doing this to show the building how much I love it, how much I love community space and how much I love this neighborhood. And I want to stop it from gentrification.” Aivaz added, who was seen climbing at the demolition equipment to attract attention to her cause.

Meanwhile, Aivaz also created a Facebook page titled “I’m Still Getting Married to 10th and Union Warehouse!” inviting the public to attend the wedding ceremony, to held from 1 p.m to 4 p.m. (local time) on Sunday; and requested them to bring some food.

“Yes, I’m in love with a 107 year old building! Yes, it’s a gay marriage! How is that possible? Well there must obviously be a deeper story.” Aivaz wrote at the Facebook page, who has already invited 400 friends and 80 of them said that they are coming to the wedding.

“So Capitol Hill, Love Yourself Let’s celebrate what we are: quirky, creative, open-minded, progressive love beings who absolutely love being. Let’s be together!” Aivaz added, noting that she expects the wedding to push through before the building will completely be demolished.

As mentioned by Aivaz in that Facebook page, she and 15 other activists went to the same building last December 3 to stand for what they believe, that it should not be demolished but instead for it to be converted to a community center for the neighborhood.
