Unang Hirit Sanctioned By MTRCB Due To Arnold Clavio’s Interview With Janet Napoles’ CounselBy Marhgil Macuha on Dec 9, 2013 in Asia, Local, Television, World •
Unang Hirit, GMA 7‘s early morning show was sanctioned by the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) due to Arnold Clavio‘s interview on its November 5 episode with Atty. Alfredo Villamor, Janet Napoles‘ counsel.
MTRCB posted on December 5 on its official Twitter account (@MTRCBgov) its ruling on the said matter “involving use of disrespectful language in interview of lawyer.” According to the said ruling, MTRCB imposed a P20,000 fine on Unang Hirit and ordered them to have a “period of close collaboration for one month” with the board.
Furthermore, it requires GMA executives, including the executive producer, director, writer, public affairs hosts and especially Arnold Clavio, of Unang Hirit to attend MTRCB Chair Atty. Toto Villareal‘s mandatory seminar on media and legal profession on December 10 and 11 at the board’s office.
A letter “containing its proposed remedial and restitutive measures”, as well as the draft public statement for Unang Hirit was reportedly submitted by GMA to MTRCB. It also said that GMA had already taken steps to “prevent similar missteps, primarily by reiterating the best practices of GMA News and Public Affairs.”
