UFC _ WEC Merger

The merger between UFC and WEC has been in the news since December of 2006. But it is only earlier today that UFC President Dana White disclosed the merger with WEC on January 2011 thru MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani.

WEC lightweight champion, Benson Henderson, gave his reaction about the UFC and WEC merger, as well as the possibility of moving into the number one contender’s spot if he defeats Anthony Pettis in December.

Henderson says :

“My initial thought? That’s cool. It’s awesome. I still have the same dreams, same aspirations. For me, it was only a matter of time. It just so happens that it happened in this exact time and place. After the winner of the Dec. 16 fight with Anthony Pettis, after that, well, I am the No.1 UFC title contender among lightweights and will fight the winner of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard.

Two new division of UFC called Bantamweight and Featherweight divisions had been added to UFC thru this merger. Jose Aldo will be the first fighter in the new division. He will defend his WEC (now UFC) title at UFC 125 on January 1. His opponent is not yet known at this time.

The merger have shown positive comments at different social media sites. This will make watching UFC more interesting.
