As featured at UFC 148 PPV on Saturday night, Silva beat Sonnen when referee Yves Lavigne stopped the fight at 1:55 of Round 2 after the defending champion landed a series of blow; while Forrest Griffin beat Tito Ortiz via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28), with Ortiz now retiring from UFC.

In the first round of the Silva vs Sonnen 2, Sonnen immediately shot in with a strong double-leg and took down Silva and spent the entire round in control by scoring an instant takedown, and used his ground-and-pound to easily win the round.

However, Silva, who also beat Sonnen in the UFC 117 in August 2010, came back in the second round after Sonnen tried a clinch and knees against the cage in the first minute, but slipped going for a spinning backfist. The champion landed a legal knee to his opponent’s chest and eventually won the fight.

Earlier, Forrest Griffin dominated the first round against Tito Ortiz, who made a couple of takedown attempts. Ortiz came out swinging and dropped Griffin early in the second round but the latter clinches up and recovered. Griffin makes the offensive in the start of the third round but Ortiz keeps coming back, with both fighters exchanging blows until the round ended.

Ortiz, 37, who was the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion from April 2000 to September 2003, was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame at the UFC Fan Expo at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas by UFC president Dana White, hours before the match.

The first Griffin vs Ortiz fight was held at UFC 59 in April 2006, where Ortiz won via split decision, while the Griffin vs Ortiz 2 was held at UFC 106 in November 2009 and Griffin won this time via with a split decision.
