As noted at MMA sports sites that night, the 155-lb Edgar vs Maynard III match finally ended the rivalry between the lightweight champion and his closest rival, after ending in a draw on New Year’s Day 2011.

For Round One, Edgar moved in quickly and grabbed the back and got a semi-takedown but Maynard saved himself by grabbing the fence. Maynard threw a head kick but did not hit Edgar, but later nailed him down with an uppercut. The round ended with Maynard winning the points and Edgar not able to fight back.

For Round Two, Edgar started slow but came in with a kick and both fighters threw punches but hardly hit each other. Edgar was able to tie up Maynard but only for a very short time, but gave him body shots and some jabs. Edgar seemed to have won this round but did not really hurt Maynard.

For Round 3, Maynard landed a knee on Edgar but received a leg kick later with both fighters seemed to have find it difficult to get the right range. Maynard landed an uppercut but received a big right from Edgar, who also gave a combination and landed a kick. Edgar probably won this round.

For Round 4, Edgar landed a big shot to Maynard‘s face, a leg kick, a big right, and an uppercut. The two exchanged blows but Edgar dominated this round and Maynard was not able to defend himself properly. Referee Josh Rosenthal stopped the fight at 3:54, with Edgar winning against Maynard via TKO.
