UAAP Season 74 Men’s Basketball Finals Game 1 now belongs to the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles as they beat Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, 82-64, at the Araneta Coliseum today, September 24, 2011, according to a report published at

Nico Salva led Ateneo‘s offense against FEU with a perfect field goal and free throw shooting. Salva sank 8 of his 8 shots from the field and eight attempts from the free throw line. He had a game high 24 points. Kiefer Ravena added 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Greg Slaughter contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. Emman Monfort had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. These four players helped Ateneo shot 72% in the last 20 minutes of the game.

Terrence Romeo took the scoring cudgels for the Tamaraws as he scored 23 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished off four assists and had two steals. Ryan Roose Garcia and Aldrech Ramos were completely shutdown by Ateneo‘s defense as the two combined for just 15 points on 28% field goal shooting.

According to FEU head coach Bert Flores, Ateneo beat them with a perfect game.

The Tamaraws led by 10 points against the Blue Eagles in the second quarter. However, Ateneo made a 12-0 run to take the lead, 30-28 with still two minutes left before halftime. The game was tied at 33 points during halftime.

Ateneo now leads the best-of-three series against FEU, 1-0. A win by Ateneo in their next game will give them their fourth straight championships in the UAAP. The Blue Eagles is gunning for a historic UAAP four-peat under head coach Norman Black.

Game 2 of the UAAP Season 74 Finals will be on Tuesday, September 27.
