Manila, PhilippinesTyphoon Quiel has slightly weakened after it traversed Northern Luzon but would still bring rains from the southwest monsoon to Central Luzon.

As noted by PAGASA on its 5 pm update on Saturday, October 1, 2011, typhoon Quiel is being estimated to be at 40 km West Northwest of Baguio City and will move West at 26 kph.

Bagyong Quiel made its landfall in Dinapigue, Aurora at around 9 a.m. (local time) on Saturday and is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Sunday morning.

Typhoon Quiel is being forecast to be at 590 km West of Baguio City on Sunday afternoon, but PAGASA reminded the public that Northern and Central Luzon may still feel storm surges.

As of 4 p.m. on Saturday, typhoon Quiel was noted to have maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 185 kph.

According to PAGASA, four provinces are still under Public Storm Signal No. 3 which includes Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, and Pampanga are still Public Storm Signal No. 2.

On the other hand, Public Storm Signal No. 1 was hoisted at Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, Northern Quezon, Polillo Island, Rizal, Cavite, Bataan, Bulacan, and Metro Manila.
