Twitter Releases Top Twitter Trends of 2010

Twitter released the list of most tweeted topics for the year 2010. In the Twitter Blog post published on Monday, the social networking and microblogging company shared the overall Top Twitter Trends of 2010, as well as a detailed top 10 for each of the eight categories namely: News Events, People, Movies, Television, Technology, World Cup, Sports and Hashtags.

The overall Top 10 Twitter Trends of 2010 are as follows:

  • Gulf Oil Spill
  • FIFA World Cup
  • Inception
  • Haiti Earthquake
  • Vuvuzela
  • Apple iPad
  • Google Android
  • Justin Bieber
  • Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows
  • Pulpo Paul

The social networking and microblogging company also boasted that 25 billion Tweets were sent this year alone. “We analyzed all those Tweets to identify the year’s Top 10 Trends,” said Jodi Olson in charge of Twitter Corp. Communications. “These Trends indicate the things that are most meaningful in our lives. Each day on Twitter, people tweet about news, sports, entertainment and cool new technology–and everything else in between” added Ms. Olson.
