Tuna recall expanded, Chicken of the Sea recalls more tuna cans due to loose seals (Updated Product List)

The earlier Chicken of the Sea tuna recall has been expanded, with Tri-Union Seafoods now adding more tuna cans to be recalled due to loose seals, which may cause contamination and may result illness to consumers. The updated complete list of affected Chicken of the Sea tuna products is available below.

As noted in a report in the official site of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday, March 8, Tri-Union Seafoods is now expanding it to include certain cans of Chicken of the Sea 5-ounce Chunk Light Tuna in Oil, which were distributed for retail sale across the US from January 23, 2013 to March 6, 2013.

This is in addition to the certain cans of Chicken of the Sea 5-ounce Chunk White Albacore Tuna in Water, which were recalled last Wednesday, March 6. Just like in the earlier recall, Tri-Union Seafoods has not received illness reports related to the problem, and the recall is to ensure the safety of the consumers.

The recalled Chicken of the Sea Chunk White Albacore Tuna were distributed for retail sale across the US from February 4, 2013 to February 27, 2013, with UPC code of 0 48000 03355 0 and the Best By date is 01/18/17. The affected Chunk Light Tuna in Oil has a UPC code of 0 48000 00195 5 and the Best By date is 01/15/17.

Customers who have bought them are still being advised not to consume them and to dispose them instead. The company emphasized that no other UPC (Unit Product Codes) of this product or other Chicken of the Sea products are affected by this tuna recall.

“The health and safety of our consumers is paramount. As soon as we discovered the issue, we took immediate steps to issue this voluntary recall by alerting our customers who received the product and by asking them to remove it from store shelves.” Tri-Union Seafoods President Shue Wing Chan was quoted at ChickenOfTheSea.com.
