Tsunami Alert as major earthquake hit Indonesia

A Tsunami alert was issued after a major earthquake hit the Western part of Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake has a 7.5 magnitude and with a depth of 33km (20.5 miles).

According to Indonesian officials, the epicentre of the earthquake is estimated at 152 miles (244 km) South of Padang City.

Tsunami warning signals in the Pacific Ocean are issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), operated by the United StatesNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. The PTWC uses a Tsunami Warning System (TWS) to detect tsunamis and issue warnings to prevent loss of life and property.
