Tropical storm Falcon and the southwest monsoon has brought heavy rains and strong winds in the Southern Tagalog area on Friday, June 24, 2011.

The bad weather has forced college and university officials to suspend classes starting at noontime.

The Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in Batangas City announced the suspension of classes after the last morning subject. According to school officials, this will enable the students to get home early and avoid being trapped if sudden flash floods occur. Announcements were made by LPU through their Facebook fan page and university website.

Other tertiary schools in Batangas City who announced class suspension include University of Batangas, and Batangas State University.

Earlier in the day, classes were suspended in preschool, elementary and high school in the City.
