Tropical depression “Ambo“, the first weather disturbance to hit the Philippines this year, has intensified and is now considered a tropical storm, with public storm warning signal number 1 up on six Luzon areas.

According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Severe Weather Bulletin Number 4 issued at 5:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2012, “Ambo” has a maximum winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. As of 4:00pm, its center is located at 190 km Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.
Public storm warning signal no. 1 is now up on Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Polillo Island, Aurora and Isabela. Ambo is expected to move north northwest at 15 kph.
Residents in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Furthermore, Ambo is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon which could bring rains over the western section of Southern Luzon and Visayas.
Moreover, fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the eastern seaboard of Luzon and Visayas.
