According to a press release by Toyota on its official website that day, it will conduct a voluntary safety recall to around 45,500 Highlander Hybrid and 36,700 Lexus RX 400h vehicles.

As noted on its report, these 2006-2007 model cars were sold across the US and no other models were involved in this latest Toyota recall.

“The Intelligent Power Module (IPM) located inside the Hybrid System Inverter contains a control board with transistors.” Toyota explained on their announcement.

“Certain transistors on the control boards in some of the subject vehicles were inadequately soldered and could be damaged from heat caused by a large current flow during high-load driving.” Toyota added.

According to Toyota, there are two problems that will possibly be encountered by the driver when the above condition will be met; with no reported related incidents as of this writing.

First, the car may only be driven in short distances which may happen in most cases, which is a result of reduced in power, with several warning lamps illuminating on the instrument panel.

Second, the power supply circuit fuse could blow when the transistor is damaged and will cause the hybrid system to stop and will eventually make the car stop, with Toyota saying this will be on a limited cases.

In line with this, Toyota said they will inform the potentially affected car owners via first class mail regarding this latest recall in the middle of next month, July.

Once the replacement part will be available, Toyota noted that they will again send a first class mail to car owners advising them to make an appointment with an authorized Toyota dealer to inspect their cars and if necessary they will replace the part for free of charge.
