Top Individual and Corporate Taxpayers in the Philippines for 2009

MANILA, Philippines – The PhilippinesBureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has published on its website the list of Top 500 Individual and Top 500 Corporate Taxpayers in the country. The publication is in accordance to Section 71 of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997. In a statement given to local news sites, BIR Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares was quoted that “the Commissioner may… publish a list containing the names and addresses of persons who have filed income tax return.”

The list of top taxpayers includes telecom giants, Smart Communications, Inc. and Globe Telecom, Inc., businessmen Ramon S. Ang of San Miguel Corp., and celebrity Willie Revillame.

BIR is hoping that the publication of the personalities names will serve as “good models” to the public, according to Ms Henares.

Elaine B. Gardiola leads the list of top taxpayers of 2009 with a total payment of P59.54 Million in income taxes for last year. She is the treasurer of the A.E. Gardiola Construction, Inc.

Smart Communications, Inc. headed by Manuel V. Pangilinan topped the list of corporate taxpayers.

  3. Wilfredo B. Revillame — P57.25-million
  4. Francis Carlo D. Taparan — P38.75 million
  5. Ronaldo R. Soliman — P36.7 million
  6. Ramon S. Ang — P26.44 million
  7. Oscar M. Lopez — P25.70 million
  8. Henry Sy, Sr. — P25.18 million
  9. Carlos D.C. Ejercito — P25.02 million
  10. Bonifacio D. Gumboc, Jr. — P24.74 million

    List of Top 10 Corporate Taxpayers in the Philippines for 2009 with their tax dues:

    1. SMART COMMUNICATIONS INC. — P10.2 Billion
    2. GLOBE TELECOM, INC. —  P5.49 Billion
    3. CHEVRON MALAMPAYA LLC — P4.19 Billion
    4. SAN MIGUEL BREWERY INC. — P3.58 Billion
    5. NESTLE PHILIPPINES INC. — P3.55 Billion
    6. PLDT COMMUNICATIONS AND ENERGY VENTURES, INC. — P3.53 Billion
