Top 10 Most Popular Dogs and New Dog Breeds in the US revealed by AKC

The American Kennel Club (AKC) started the Year of the Rabbit with the announcement of three new dog breeds in its official website. The three new dog breeds include the Entlebucher Mountain Dog, the Norwegian Lundehund and the Xoloitzcuintli. The announcement of the new dog breeds was made public on January 25, 2011.

On January 27, 2011, AKC announced its list of most popular dogs for 2010. The list revealed that the Labrador Retriever, for the 20th year in a row, has maintained its position as the most popular breed in America for 2010.

The top 10 most popular dogs list has been shaken up this year with – the Beagle taking over 4th place from the Golden Retriever. The Bulldog continued it consistent rise in the rankings as it grabbed 6th place from the Boxer, who is now in 7th place. Among the small dogs, the Yorkshire Terrier made a rise in the top 10 rankings by taking the 3rd spot from its previous 7th place.
