Tommy Hilfiger celebrated his 25th anniversary in the fashion business.

On Sunday night, Hilfiger threw a fashion show party in New York for his closest friends, with movie stars, music and musicians in attendance.

During the party, the top fashion designer introduced 25 limited-edition pieces; each inspired by American legends including Steve McQueen, Grace Kelly and Deborah Harry.

“It’s been an amazing journey from where I started,” Hilfiger told CNN as looks derived from classic style icons hit the runway.

The night was an unabashed celebration of the blend of sport, fashion and feel-good glamour that has made him one of the longest-running success stories in American fashion.

“It’s what I like to call the Tommy Twist,” Hilfiger said, dressed in one of his own looks for the season: red trousers and a navy blue blazer, the epitome of relaxed preppy.

Hilfiger has called his signature style “preppy with a surprise” and this Twisted Country Club collection for spring-summer 2011 stayed true to that formula.

It starred rolled-hem shorts in seersucker stripes, pleated tennis dresses and crisp blazers in an all-American palette of red, white and blue, lifted with slices of lemon yellow.

Music legend Russell Simmons and former wife Kimora Lee, Jennifer Lopez, Serena Williams and Lenny Kravitz are just some of the big names who attended the fashion show party.

Although Tommy Hilfiger himself has not owned the company since 2006 after selling it to private investment company Apax Partners, he still remains with the company as a “principal designer and visionary”.
