Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2011 canceled due to Japan earthquake

The Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2011 was canceled due to the strong earthquake that hit Japan on Friday, March 11 that prompted a huge tsunami, where thousands of people died and still counting.

As announced at Tokyo Anime, the official website of the annual Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) event, this year’s event which is supposed to be held from March 24 ~ 27, 2011, will be canceled.

As noted in the website, dates March 24 ~ 25 are supposed to be business days, while the remaining two days are for the public day event.

Apparently, the announcement was made on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, as organizers also expressed their sympathy and grief over the loss of the country due to the twin disaster.

After assessing the current situation, the Tokyo International Anime Fair Executive Committee said on the press release that the safety of the participants and visitors were taken into consideration.

In addition, the committee said electrical power supply may also be affected and the traffic accessibility may not be served properly.

The organizers are apologizing for the inconvenience it may cause to the public, but did not mention when the event will resume.
