“The X Factor” Season 1 winner Melanie Amaro takes home $5 million recording contract

Melanie Amaro is legitimately the first U.S. winner of “The X Factor”, as announced by several entertainment news sites, December 22, 2011.

According to reports, Melanie Amaro earned a $5 million recording contract with Sony Music.

Melanie Amaro, the 19-year-old British Virgin Islands native, beat Chris Rene and Josh Krajcik for the inaugural title after months of intense competition.

Head judge Simon Cowell was seemingly confident with Amaro’s rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, a holiday song made famous by Mariah Carey.

Simon Cowell was reportedly quoted saying, “America, thank you for giving this girl an opportunity. She is a star,”

An emotional Melanie Amaro was also thankful saying, “Thank you so much! I don’t know what to say. Thank you. God is good.”

The results capped off a star-studded finale that featured performances by 50 Cent, Leona Lewis, Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Justin Bieber and Stevie Wonder.
