Texas wildfire wipes out nearly 500 houses

A wildfire in Bastrop, Central Texas reportedly devastated nearly 500 houses on Monday, September 5, 2011.

According to the latest update on US news sites on Tuesday, the wildfire scattered through a drought farm and ranch land due to the winds from the leftovers of Tropical Storm Lee.

With this, at least 5,000 people were obliged to leave their homes in Bastrop County because of enormous clouds of smoke rose into the sky. Many of them spent their nights in emergency shelters.

The wildfire have affected as 25,000 acres were affected by the fire and have reached until 16 miles, Texas Forest Service officials told reports.

Bastrop County Judge Ronnie McDonald noted that the wildfire damaged 476 houses and almost 250 firefighters were working 24/7, in which they used bulldozers and trucks to stop the fire.
