The Big Ten Conference reveals new logo, and unveiled new division names and trophies, as published on their official website on Monday.

The announcement of Big Ten apparently came to honor legends and leaders throughout its history, and was prompted by the upcoming addition of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln as the conference’s 12th member school.

Big Ten’s new logo was developed by Michael Bierut and Michael Gericke from Pentagram, an international design firm, apparently to symbolize the future of the conference, as well as its rich legacy, which will be used for all sports starting next academic year, 2011-12.

On the other hand, Big Ten said their new division names will be ‘Legend’ and ‘Leaders’.

“’Legends’ is a nod to our history and to the people associated with our schools who are widely recognized as legends – student-athletes, coaches, alumni and faculty.” Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany said.

“’Leaders’ looks to the future as we remain committed to fostering leaders, the student-athletes who are encouraged to lead in their own way for the rest of their lives, in their families, in their communities and in their chosen professions.” Mr. Delany added.

Meanwhile, Big Ten also announced their creation of 18 trophies and was said to honor noted student-athletes and coaches who have contributed to its history.

Just like their new logo, Big Ten said these newly named trophies will be used when the 2011 season begins.
