A teen football player named Michael Ellsessar collapsed on the field and died during a junior varsity game on Monday, in Warren, Massachusetts.

According to international news sites, the incident happened at around 6 p.m. while Michael Ellsessar was playing for Oxford High School against the Quaboag Regional High School.

Michael Ellsessar, 16 years old, was said to have attended at Sutton High School, but was playing for Oxford since Sutton does not have a football team.

Tim Connolly, spokesman for the Worcester district attorney told the news that a referee performed CPR to the victim, and immediately rushed Ellsessar to a hospital via an ambulance.

However, reports said that the teen football player was pronounced dead at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware, and the cause of death is still under investigation.

“By all accounts just a tremendous young man,” Ted Friend, Superintendent of Sutton High School confirmed the news as he mentioned about what he knew about the football player.

“Great family, great student, good athlete, just an all-around great kid,” he added.
