Tallest woman dies: Yao Defen Passed Away in China at 39 (Photo)

The world’s tallest woman, Yao Defen, has died in the province of Anhui in eastern China last November 13, 2012, according to a news report by the Chinese state media. She was 39.

At 7 feet and 7 inches (233.3 centimeters) tall, the Chinese was certified by the Guinness World Records as the tallest woman in the world in January of 2010.

Experts say that Defen‘s unusual height was due to a tumor in her pituitary gland. She reportedly stand over 6 feet and 7 inches when she was 15.

Reports say that an anonymous from the government of Shucha township confirmed on Wednesday, December 5 that “Yao Defen died in the middle of last month.”

As of posting, there were no details on Defen‘s cause of death.
