The Irish Daily Star, a tabloid newspaper in Ireland printed the photos of the Duchess of Cambridge in September, one day after Britain’s royal family took a legal action against a French magazine that published the photographs of Kate Middleton.
According to reports, the tabloid editor Michael O’Kane has been suspended from his post since September while an investigation into the use of the photos takes place.
Due to the tensions it brought with the shareholders and a threat to shut the paper down completely from media tycoon Richard Desmond who co-owns the paper, the tabloid editor resigns.
“As a result of the publication on 15 September 2012, issues arose with the shareholders of Independent Star Limited. Having considered those issues in tandem with Mr O’Kane, it is Mr O’Kane’s decision to resign as editor of the Irish Daily Star, effective immediately,” the Dublin-based Irish Daily Star said in a statement as quoted from BBC.
