As noted at People on Thursday, July 12, 2012, Steven Tyler will not return as one of the three American Idol Season 12 judges, with the rocker saying that he will now focus on his band Aerosmith, which he said will release a new album on November 6, 2012.
“After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit.” Steven Tyler was quoted in a statement; who has been among the show judges from 2011 to 2012, with Phillip Phillips winning this year and Jessica Sanchez as runner-up.
“I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it…now it’s time to bring rock back.” The 64-year old rock icon added.
The next day, People reported that an insider told them Mariah Carey is “in play and that they are in serious talks,” with Jennifer Lopez now giving a hint that she is probably not going to return to the show; as earlier rumored even during the American Idol Season 11 and is about to reach the Top 2 finals.
“I’ve enjoyed it so much, but I am thinking it’s maybe time for me to go and do other things I really love to do like films…and performing. This has been a great journey, but then again I love the show so…all I can tell you is what I’m thinking,” Lopez was quoted in NBC‘s Today‘s interview last Thursday.
