Stephane Vetter Won First Place In 2011 International Photo Contest Organized By TWAN and Global Astronomy Month (Photo)

Stephane Vetter won first place in the recent 2011 International Earth and Sky Photo Contest on Dark Skies Importance which were organized by astronomy-education projects The World at Night (TWAN) and Global Astronomy Month on April 2011.

The announcement of winners were published on TWAN‘s official website on May 9, 2011. According to TWAN‘s website, the photo entries were selected from about 30 countries submitted by photography enthusiasts. The photo contest has two categories, the “Beauty of the Night Sky” category in which Vetter won the first prize and the “Against the Lights” category that goes to Thomas Kurat for his photo “Alps at Night”.

Vetter‘s winning photo “A Starry Night of Iceland” displays the Milky Way which was framed by the dancing ring of northern lights. He won an ED 80mm ED 80mm Apochromatic telescope provided by the Canadian Telescopes as one of the prizes.
