Starbucks Corporation announced on Sunday that it will roll out its biggest drink size yet, the 31 ounce “Trenta“, in all Starbucks US coffee shops by May 3, 2011. However, 14 US states — Alabama, Arizona, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and Nevada — will start serving drinks on the Trenta cup on January 18. California will follow on February 1.

According to reports, the Trenta cup is 7 ounces larger than the Venti cup. It will only be available for iced coffee, iced tea and iced tea lemonade drinks. The company said that drinks in the Trenta cup will cost 50 cents more than the similar Venti-sized iced drinks.

Some fear that the introduction of a bigger cup might lead to an even “bigger waistline.” However, Starbucks pointed out that unsweetened versions of their drinks will still have less than 90 calories while the sweetened versions will be under 230 calories.

In a comparison made by the National Post, it was said that the new Starbucks Trenta is larger than the average adult human stomach.
