JaVale McGee will represent the Washington Wizards in the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest of the 60th NBA All-Star Weekend at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA, on the night of February 19, 2011, according to international sports sites. Other NBA players who will be competing for the dunking contest are LA Clippers forward Blake Griffin, Oklahoma City Thunder big man Serge Ibaka, and Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings.

McGee is a 7-footer that plays center for the Wizards. He has registered 55 dunks in 31 games of the NBA 2010-11 season. McGee ranks second with 3.13 dunks per game among players with at least 50 dunks this season, with 48 percent of his field goals coming by way of the dunk.

McGee expressed hunger in joining the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest and this is what he has to say:

I’m excited and proud to be able to represent our fans and this organization in the dunk contest. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, and it’s an honor to be considered as one of the game’s top dunkers, but in the meantime I’m just focusing on the other things that I need to do for my teammates and coaches to help us win.
