Taylor Farms, also known as Taylor Fresh Foods, announced on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, a voluntary recall of selected Baby Spinach products, noting that they may be contaminated with Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC), or E. coli. A list of the recalled products is available below.

According to a press release at SpinachMarketWithdrawal.com, Taylor Farms is recalling five brands of Organic Baby Spinach products, including Central Market Organics, Full Circle Organic, Marketside Organic, Simple Truth Organic, and Taylor Farms Organic. All of them have a Best By date of February 24, 2013.
As noted in the Taylor Farms spinach recall product list, the recalled products are in the 5 oz. tray and 16 oz. tray 5 oz. tray packages, and were distributed in different US states. However, the company emphasized that no other products or code dates are affected by this Taylor Farms recall.
In addition, Taylor Farms noted that they are currently coordinating with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) on this baby spinach recall, and that there have been no related reported illnesses.
As explained at FDA.gov, “E. coli poisoning is a serious and potentially deadly illness, typically transmitted using the fecal-mouth route by eating or drinking foods or beverages contaminated with E. coli, eating unpasteurized (i.e., raw) milk and (raw) milk products and untreated water.”
Among the common symptoms of E. coli poisoning the FDA noted include “severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting, nausea and headache. People particularly at risk for serious E. coli illness and complications are the very young, the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems.”
