Spider-Man comic book, originally sold for 12 cents, has fetched $1.1 million on Monday, March 7, 2011, according to international sites. The comic book issue was sold by a private seller, according to ComicConnect.com chief executive Stephen Fishler.

The near-mint No. 15 copy of the 1962 comic book, entitled “Amazing Fantasy“, features Spiderman‘s debut. The comic book, formerly titled “Amazing Adult Fantasy”, was sold to a private comic collector.

The cover of the rare comic book was drawn by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. It shows Spiderman holding a villain in one arm while swinging from his web with the other.

Spiderman and Peter Parker was co-created by writer Stan Lee and Ditko. Parker became Spiderman when he was bitten by a radioactive spider.

According to reports, the copy of “Action Comics” No. 1 holds the distinction as the comic book with the highest acquisition price. The copy has Superman on the cover and was sold for $1.5 million.

Below is the statement issued by Fishler regarding the expensive rare Spiderman comics.

The fact that a 1962 comic has sold for $1.1 million is a bit of a record-shattering event. That something that recent can sell for that much and be that valuable is awe-inspiring.

Over the last decade it has become a rather legendary copy because it was in the hands of a collector and no one thought he would sell. The owner came up with a figure that he didn’t think anyone would pay, and it was paid.
