The much talked about “Spartacus” prequel had premiered January 21, 2011 on millions of TV screens according to International Entertainment sites. “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” is a prequel to the first series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” which became controversial among viewers because of its  extreme bloody scenes, intense action and explicit adult content.

According to critics, “Gods of the Arena” is “tamer” than its first counterpart but nevertheless as explosive. The treatment of the story of gladiators Crixus and Gannicus, played by Manu Bennett and Dustin Clare respectively, has improved a lot. The framing and angles of the scenes are more intricately done and perfected.

The prequel also revolved around the journey of Lentulus Batiatus (John Hannah) and Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) during that significant period of the Roman Empire.
